Borussia Dortmund vs Arsenal: Post-Match Report

Arsenal faced Borussia Dortmund after a good outing against Manchester City. A very weak Arsenal showed that the team is in need of desperate help defensively (our fellow writer Scott spoke about the defensive crisis) and lost the game 2-0 against a very strong Dortmund team led by Ciro Immobile and Aubameyang. After the break, the ULTRA SPECIAL MATCH REPORT!!!!!
Sorry, just trying to cheer you up.

The game was overall one-sided. Arsenal started the game out by losing the ball…a lot…and yeah I literally mean they couldn’t chain up five passes at a time. Would’ve been a  miracle if they did.
The clearest chance came from a Ramsey pass to Welbeck. And I swear, in that moment I saw myself celebrating being the smartest son of a gun by starting him in my Fantasy League. Well guess what? When United fans tell you his finishing should be rated -2, they are not joking.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the signing, but come on Danny that pass was a beauty!
Since we are all Arsenal fans and luck is never on our side, shortly after the missed opportunity, Immobile ran like if he were escaping a prison break and left the defenders behind. One touch to get open from the last two defenders and he scored.
1-0 going into the break.
Now you would think: “Yeah half time! Cazorla? IN! The Ox? IN! Well no, the team stayed the same and the game resumed. Clearly the best strategy is score quick and give yourself a chance. Like I just said, we are Arsenal fans – so obviously Aubameyang got a shot after Szczesny tried to block him (no idea what he was aiming for since there was a defender about to get to Aubameyang) and scored.
2-0, game over.
Podolski came in late and didn’t do a thing, until the end where he had a shot but obviously missed.
My match review:
The Good
Literally only Szczesny, Wilshere and Koscielny. They were the only bright spots today. Koscielny was the only thing we could rescue from an otherwise disastrous defensive outing for Arsenal.
Our goalkeeper did mess up with the second goal, but man did he save the team from an even worse beating but it still makes me hope Ospina plays soon. Wilshere was the only one who gave a damn about attacking. Nobody else could get anything going and he tried until he was hit to the ground.

The Bad
Everybody else.
I’m sorry I am being so pessimistic but this team can not play like this if they expect to do anything this season. Mertesacker was so, so slow. He would lose track of every attacker. Alexis couldn’t get a single thing going. Every time he tried to sprint he would lose the ball in a second.
And well Welbeck… I spoke about him. I could go on and on but we gotta move on from this defeat. Time to look at the game tape and get better. Hopefully, this team can learn and avoid another loss this weekend.
Next up: Aston Villa vs Arsenal on September 20th.
