ENGLAN/ ARSENAL, Sagna can leave

Image
Bacary Sagna looks set to be the next high-profile Arsenal player to leave the North London club. There are reports circulating that the France right back feels ‘disrespected’ by the Gunners’ offer of a 12-month extension to his deal that expires in 2014. He has told team-mates he expects to leave the beleaguered club at the end of the season. Arsenal are refusing to improve Sagna’s  current wage of £60,000 a week and given he is turning 30 in a couple of months’ time; this is likely to be the defender’s last chance at a lucrative contract. You would be hard pressed to find an Arsenal player who deserves a wage increase at the moment but the club’s decision not to offer a long-term deal is believed to be linked to his injury problems, having suffered two broken legs in the last year. Sagna angered his manager Arsene Wenger this season after publicly criticising the club for selling Robin van Persie and Alex Song during the summer. In other Arsenal contract issu

Transfer News: Arsenal Lead Chelsea In Race For French Defender

Image
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea are linked with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Arsenal are leading Chelsea in the race to sign Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, according to the  Metro . Gunners boss  Arsene Wenger  is a long-term admirer of the defenders and tried to land him in the summer, but the defender decided to remain with Montpellier and lead the club out in the  Champions League  this season. However, having been drawn in the same group as Arsenal, the Ligue 1 champions have crashed out at the first hurdle and Wenger is set to renew his interest in January. Chelsea and AC Milan have also shown interest in the 23-year-old but the Gunners are believed to be the front-runners and enjoy a good relationship with Montpellier after signing Olivier Giroud in the summer. The French outfit were adamant th

Swans to meet Gunners again

Swansea have been handed a home tie against Arsenal in the FA Cup in this afternoon's draw for the third round. The two sides met in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday and the south Wales outfit increased the pressure of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as they ran out 2-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium. All third-round ties will take place on the weekend of the 5/6 January.

Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood Has Suffered A Heart Attack

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has suffered a heart attack and is recovering in hospital. The 76-year-old's heart attack followed a bout of pneumonia, the club said. A statement from Arsenal read: "Peter was taken ill at home on Friday and is currently being treated in hospital. He is making a good recovery. "The club wishes Peter a full and speedy return to health and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time." Hill-Wood has been chairman of the club since 1982, and is a former vice-chairman of the Hambros Bank. He is the third member of his family to serve as Arsenal chairman, following on from his father Denis (1962-1982) and his grandfather Samuel, who had two separate spells in the role between 1929 and 1936 and from 1946 to 1949. Wenger Unsure Over Future As Guardiola Links Begin At Arsenal

Image
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told reporters that he will consider his future at the club next summer leaving many to speculate about a possible approach for Pep Guardiola. Wenger’s side lost 2-0 to Swansea City on Saturday at home and have made their worst start to a Premier League season since the 63-year-old took over and Wenger said he was unsure over his future. “At the moment I am not in the mood to think about the long-term future. We want to do well this season, that’s all. I am an Arsenal man. I think I have always shown that,” he said. “I have to consider if I do well or not. If I don’t do well, I have to consider my future. “I have been at the club long enough to have confidence in the people I work with, but I will assess my own performances and then make a decision, at the moment we are not there.” Wenger’s self-doubt will have the club’s fans speculating aswell as media sources and one rumour that has been already mentioned is the possible approach for for

Arsenal 0-2 Swansea

I wrote on Friday that Arsenal`s recent away draws would be better judged in the light of proceeding home results. I think we can agree that that went well. Pre match I watched Chelsea`s malaise beamed back onto the Arsenal Tavern screens, their despair burned onto LCD display for a crowd of cheering patrons. Usually Chelsea`s misery is my meat, but somehow I felt to delight in their plight would be premature. Arsene made some changes to the side that drew with Goodison on a bitterly cold day in North London. Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs came in for the injured Laurent Koscielny and Bacary Sagna. Lukas Podolski came back from illness and was awarded his chance as a centre forward, with Gervinho and Walcott flanking him. I think the idea was that the front three would form a liquid, interchanging unit. It ended up looking more of a grey sludge of inertia. Neither of the three, as individuals or as a collective, produced much for the Swans defence to trouble themselves with. Th

Serbian International Playmaker To Join Arsenal

Image
The 18-year-old has been attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with Sevilla, Roma and Inter Milan all sending scouts to some of Partizan Belgrade’s Europe League matches this season. However,  Arsenal  have now emerged as another side in the running to sign the talented teenager with Arsene Wenger tempted to make a January move. Spanish side Sevilla are also interested but it is Inter Milan who may express an official interest in the coming weeks as the Italian giants travel to Partizan Belgrade this week in the Europa League

Giroud: France Can Finsh Above Spain

Image
Giroud: France can finish ahead of Spain The Arsenal attacker has admitted that les Bleus could be in for a tough task, but he remains hopeful that they can pull off an upset against the world and European champions The Arsenal striker believes that the reigning European champions are the best team in the world, but is nonetheless hopeful of causing an upset by pipping Spain to automatic qualification for the finals in Brazil. "Spain are benefiting from an incredible generation of players who have been performing together for a very long time. I don’t know if any team will ever be able to do better than they have. That said, from what I could see from the sidelines, I don’t think we were that far away from them during that quarter-final," Giroud stated to fifa.com . " Spain are the best team in the world, so it’s going to be difficult, but not impossible. We have to show some ambition. If we can win every one of our other matches, a

ARSENAL, Walcott: "We are ready for a tough month"

Image
Theo Walcott believes the next month will be a major test of Arsenal’s credentials, but says they are ready for the challenge. Arsène Wenger’s side host Fulham, Tottenham and Montpellier in successive weeks, before travelling to Aston Villa and then Everton. It is a demanding schedule, but following their morale-boosting 2-2 draw at Schalke Walcott says Arsenal will go into these games in confident mood. “Schalke came at us in the second half and we found it difficult to be honest,” he told Arsenal Player. “But we dug deep and before the game we probably would have taken a point. “When you come to a difficult place with a difficult atmosphere, against a good team who beat us at home, [it was great] to get the two early goals. It is just a shame we couldn't kill it off, but it was a good point in the end. “It is going to be a tough month for us now. It is going to test us all, not just physically but mentally as well, and I think we are ready for it.” Walcott fought o

Arsenal Keen On Dutch International Left-Back Jetro Willems

Image
Emirates Stadium side keen on PSV Eindhoven teenager. Arsenal are reportedly running the rule over young Dutch international Jetro Willems as Arsene Wenger looks to ably add strength in depth to the left side of the Gunners defence. The teenage PSV Eindhoven starlet was part of Bert Van Marwijk’s Euro 2012 squad and is a player who has shown a great deal of potential since his move to the Philips Stadion in the summer of 2011. Willems has been a regular in Dick Advocaat’s PSV starting line-up this term, helping his side to an excellent start to the Eredivisie campaign where they sit just a point off leaders FC Twente. Wenger has seen Andre Santos produce a series of poor displays and the furore that followed his request for Robin Van Persie’s Man United shirt last weekend led to the Brazilian being dropped for the Champions League encounter with Schalke. Young England international Kieran Gibbs has impressed when called upon to fill the left-back slot but has suffe

Wilshere Hopes For Walcott Resolution

Jack Wilshere has urged Arsene Wenger and Theo Walcott to reach a quick conclusion regarding the Arsenal winger's future.  Former Southampton man Walcott has been in protracted contract talks with the Gunners, with a deal yet to be reached and uncertainty clouding his future at the Emirates Stadium. But teammate Wilshere believes it is imperative that manager Wenger retains the England international, who scored in Arsenal's 2-2 Champions League draw at Schalke on Tuesday.  "Theo has been great," Wilshere told The Evening Standard. "His future is down to him and the boss to sort out. I hope he does sign. "He has been great for us. He's an English lad and great to have around." Wilshere has recently returned from injury after nearly 18 months on the sidelines, but picked up a red card against Manchester United that has ruled him out of Arsenal's Premier League match against Fulham this weekend.  "I am gutted to miss Fulham after be

Arsenal are lining up a bid for Everton full-back Leighton Baines this January

According to reports in various English media, Arsene Wenger is looking to sign Leighton Baines in the January transfer window. The Everton left back was previously linked with a move to Manchester United. Baines was supposedly earmarked as the perfect replacement for Patrice Evra, whose form has not been up to expectations in recent past. But now it seems that Arsenal could join United in the chase for the England international, according to the People, as Arsene Wenger has been looking to strengthen the left back slot. Gibbs and Santos are considered to be the weakest link in the Arsenal defense; both are inconsistent and injury prone. Although Baines would be a great addition to the squad, it would be interesting to see whether Wenger agrees meet Everton’s demands of £15million for the left back. These rumours comes days after Baines said in an interview that although he wants to get more minutes on the pitch for his national side, he understands why it is hard to l

Montpellier Defender Admits That Arsenal Made A Bid For Him

No Mapou Yanga M’Biwa for Arsenal There was heavy interest by Arsenal for the Montpellier defender, Mapou Yanga M’Biwa as the window drew to a close. His versatility and youth was probably one of the most attractive factors to Wenger. However, it looks extremely unlikely that Wenger will get his man with M’Biwa’s latest quotes: “The chairman told me I have an agreement to leave. “AC Milan came for me. But the chairman refused the offer. So I understood it would be difficult. “Arsenal came to make an attempt. But I was focused on something else [AC Milan]. I was disappointed when I understood it could not be sorted out with Milan. “The chairman is our boss, our godfather, the one who educated us and gave us an opportunity. We have to show respect.” As you can see, his heart really isn’t in it for the Gunners. He already rejected a move to Arsenal (which was probably a deadline day bid) because his “head was turned” by Milan. It’s clear that he’s focussed on a move to

Diaby: I am Not Like Alex Song

The Arsenal career of Abou Diaby has been very frustrating for Arsenal fans everywhere, but imagine what it was like for the man himself and his manager. Arsene Wenger has always had faith in the French midfielder, and it is the support and belief that he has received from evryone at the club that has kept him going. “Mentally it was a hard time but I love football. Football is my passion so it doesn’t matter what happened, I need to look forward and that is what I have done in this situation. “I have to thank the manager because I have had tremendous support and, as a player, it is really important to have that support. Support from your team mates as well, I have to say that during this period they helped a lot. “I want to enjoy myself because I love football, and to pay back the club, manager and team mates as well.” The 26-year old French international joined the Gunners in January 2006 and made 16 appearances before a horror tackle by Sunderland defender Dan Smith

Arsenal Line Up £6m January Move for Dutch Goal Machine Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Image
Arsenal are reportedly considering a January move for Schalke forward Klaas Jan-Huntelaar as Arsene Wenger looks at strengthening his attacking options. The North London side will apparently register a bid in the region of £6m for the Dutch international, who will be available on a free transfer next summer when his contract at his Bundesliga side comes to an end. Having seen Robin Van Persie leave for Man United Wenger has seen his attacking options greatly blunted and the Gunners boss must now rely on new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to provide the firepower for the North London side. Indeed Arsenal’s back up support has also been reduced with Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young completed loan moves to Juventus and Celta Vigo respectively, whilst Carlos Vela completed a £4m move to Real Sociedad. The 29 year old former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan man has previously been an Arsenal target and is said to be a player that Wen

Bacary's Comments Timed To Nudge The Board?

Just when you thought it was safe to stop talking about Arsenal’s transfer policy (for a few months at least) Bacary Sagna has reopened old wounds with an interview given to L’Equipe in which he bemoans the loss of key players every year:  At Arsenal, you’re back from holidays, you prepare and you see two of the players leave when competition returns. That’s the way it is since I am here. I’m used to it now. Van Persie, I expected it. All of us expected it. It was ‘obvious’, if I shall put it in English. But Alex Song for Barcelona… What a surprise. He is 24, he had three years left. I still can’t understand. It is a huge loss for the club. Sagna goes on to appear to question his own future at Arsenal, pointing out that he himself has only two years to run on his deal and that, as yet, no one at the club has talked to him about extending it. It’s a worrying situation indeed. We know that Cesc for example decided to leave not just because of his Barca DNA but becau

Diaby: I' m Not Song's Replacement, I want To Attack

Diaby says he is Arsenal’s Yaya Toure not Alex Song by AM Abou Diaby has hogged the limelight with his superlative performance against Liverpool. Following Alex Song’s departure to Barcelona, there were questions about who is going to take up the role vacated by him. Diaby says that Coquelin and Arteta are the ones who will step into Song’s shoes, while he will be Arsenal’s Yaya Toure. The Frenchman said – “In our teams, Yaya Toure and me have similar roles. I am not Alex Song. We have many players who can take his place like Francis Coquelin or Mikel Arteta, who likes to play deep. I want to get forward – that’s me. “I have defensive duties as well so I need to have a good shape defensively and, as soon as we get the ball, go forward. “I have to thank the manager because I have had tremendous support and as a player it is really important to have that support. Support from your team-mates as well – I have to say that during this period they helped a lo

A good start but Arsenal’s true test will come in the next three games

So its fair to say that judging by yesterday’s result, most fans would agree that Arsenal are back to their usual winning ways. However, I still approach with caution when I say that not all our problems are immediately sorted with a victory against Liverpool. Our next trio of games will include Southampton, City and Chelsea. Not the easiest run of games, to say the least. Sometimes we have to step back and look at reality for a second before we get caught up on just how great our current squad really is. Southampton have already tested City and Man Utd defensively and have broken through twice on each occasion. More than that though, both City and United were pulled from the fire by quality strikers. Giroud has what it takes but the team must learn to deliver the ball into the box to make use of his height advantage. How often against Liverpool did we watch the ball sail over Giroud? Effective deliveries into the box against Southampton will be the key to the match.

Harry Redknapp offers his pearls of wisdom to Arsenal ace

Harry Redknapp has made a surprising plea to Theo Walcott through his column in The Sun , requesting the winger to stay put at Arsenal. Walcott’s contract situation at the Emirates has fuelled speculation about his future, with Man City and Liverpool prepared to make a dash for the Englishmanwho has only a year left on his deal. But Redknapp has urged the 23 year old to sign a new contract with the Gunners, claiming that he has the talent to fill the boots of Robin van Persie. Redknapp, who gave Walcott his debut at Southampton back in 2005, wrote this in his column: “There is so much more to come from him. And nowhere will he get a better chance to fulfil that potential than where he is right now. He should sort out the little differences in his contract with the club and then sign it.” The former Tottenham boss also felt that Walcott’s talents could be served better from a more central position, pointing to the fact that centre-backs are rarely comfortable in the f

Image
As usual football pundits predicted Arsenal to do bad this season after selling two of their main stars RVP and Song. But as Wenger said earlier in an interview, “Arsenal can always surprise you.” After two goalless draws, they produced a solid performance against a good Liverpool side to get maximum points at Anfield. Both the new signings Cazorla and Podolski had a good game. But it was Abou Diaby who stole the show at Anfield. He pulled all the strings in the midfield and Liverpool found it very difficult to stop his long stride dribbles. Diaby show at Anfield Now lets analyze whether he alone or with Arteta can fill the gap left by Song effectively. Yes! Song is a good player. We all know that. Last season he had many assists under his belt and his link up play with ex-Arsenal captain RVP was great too. But as a defensive midfielder, he failed in my opinion. He lost possession many times with his poorly executed holdup plays. He also slowed down the tempo of

Inter and Juve interested in Arsenal ace

Arsenal will have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Theo Walcott if they cannot agree a new contract with him before the January transfer window, as Inter and Juve want the winger according to Mirror Football . The England international attacker is in the last year of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and has rejected a new five-year deal from Arsene Wenger’s men. After watching Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie manufacture moves away from the north London club, it is believed that Walcott is weighing up his options and could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January. Serie A sides Juventus and Inter are thought to be keeping tabs on the situation, whilst big-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain are also in the frame. Walcott was initially wanted by Manchester City and Liverpool in the transfer window just gone

Ferguson happy with van Persie's Man Utd impact

Image
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Robin van Persie for his start to life at Old Trafford after the former Arsenal striker netted a hat-trick in a 3-2 Premier League win over Southampton on Sunday, the BBC has reported. Van Persie also missed a penalty in the match but recovered to twice draw the Red Devils level with the Saints, and then to eventually put them in front with only minutes remaining. The treble follows on from van Persie’s first United goal a week earlier - which also came in a 3-2 victory, this time at Old Trafford against Fulham. Ferguson admitted he was impressed by the Netherlands international’s contribution against Southampton. He said: “ His first goal was magnificent - the control and then to bury it. It was a really good goal. His header was excellent, too, but he has been a terrific player for us. ” United had fallen behind in the match through Rickie Lambert’s far post header only for van Persie to equalise before hal

Jack Wilshere Injury Update…

Image
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims midfielder Jack Wilshere is looking ‘very good’ in training and should return to action in a month. The 20-year-old missed the whole of last season with an ankle injury and underwent surgery on a long-standing knee issue in the summer. Understandably, the Arsenal staff have been cautious not to rush the youngster back this time after he suffered a set-back when close to a first team return back in February. Wilshere has been training hard in the gym all summer to keep his fitness up and recently returned to train with the rest of the squad as he stepped up his rehabilitation. It now seems he’s not too far away from making his return to the pitch, with Wenger claiming he’s looking very good in training and he should be ready to start playing again in around a month. Arsene told Arsenal.com : He is looking very good in training. Close? It depends what you call close. I would still give him a month. But it looks very

Liverpool 0-2 Arsenal – Post Match Thoughts

A new week, a new month and what a way to get a tough September started as the good Gunners put up what is unarguably our best away performance since we did one on Ch3l5ea in that 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield in Sunday’s early kick-off. Prinz Poldi opened his Premier League account and from his countenance, it was evident what a confidence boost of a goal his strike into the bottom corner was for him especially and the club by extension. The German international clearly has become comfortable with the Arsenal play from the left flank. More so when he goes back to help Kieran Gibbs in defence, he actually makes interceptions and good tackles, as evident in the start of the counterattack with Santi Cazorla which resulted in our first goal. Problem now is monsieur G12oud whose play on the day was a below par compared to the one he had in our trip to the Britannia, with the moment of bother coming in the closing minutes of the first half when he shot wide of Reina’

Arsenal boss Wenger insists he is not ready for retirement

The 62-year-old says he is excited by the prospect of rebuilding his squad after the Gunners sold star duo Robin van Persie and Alex Song this summer Getty Images Arsene Wenger insists another arduous summer at the Arsenal helm has not pushed him closer to retirement and is indeed energised by the prospect of building another great team. Don't Miss Sir Alex relishing 1,000th league game Pires: Giroud can replace Van Persie Jose Enrique: Cazorla one of the best Wenger out to prove doubters wrong The Frenchman was powerless to prevent the loss of Robin van Persie to Manchester United during the close season and admitted it was “strange” to see his captain opening his goalscoring account for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side with a fabulous volley in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Fulham. With Alex Song also having departed last month, Wenger could be forgiven for thinking he faces a folorn task in restoring

Liverpool vs Arsenal Match Preview And Possible Line Up

Image
Football returns, events on the pitch taking over from the mania which engulfs the game in the final week of the transfer windows. Next years holiday is already planned to avoid the madness again; it’s quite therapeutic. Arsenal travel to Anfield seeking their first win and goals of the season as a run of tough fixtures commences. History resonates through this fixture with those of a certain age and beyond recalling the importance of a trip to this side of Stanley Park. The hosts’ diminished circumstances have not subdued that feeling, evidenced by Carl Jenkinson ‘s enthusiasm for the clash. This lunchtime’s fixture is the start of the future; the Arsenal squad is what it is until the intervention of the Winter transfer window or a substantial bid by any Russian, Finnish or French clubs for any players. There would be some surprise if anyone was allowed to leave which will no doubt disappoint the numerous lumberjacks amongst Arsenal supporters.

We Were All Happy When We Heard That Cabaye's Bid Was Accepted

Being an Arsenal Fan was somehow bad at the end of transfer window because we were all expecting a direct replacement for Alex Song according to what Arsene Wenger and the board promise us.  When i personally heard that Cabaye's bid was accepted, i was so excited to the extend that jumping online to update people but so unfortunate noting happened at the end. We don't have choice right now than to get behind the team fully as they continue there competition in the league and the champions league. I' m somehow short of words but i wish the team best of luck in there campaign.

Arsene Wenger defends his transfer policy and of course pleads for time

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended his transfer policy and insists spending big doesn’t necessarily mean adding quality to the squad. It has been another tumultuous summer at Arsenal, where the Gunners sold talismanic skipper Robin van Persie to Manchester United and Alex Song to Barcelona and in place reinforced the squad with the likes of Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. Wenger, who has always kept faith on his philosophy, insisted splashing big in the transfer market is not a true justification of quality, while buying better players than the present lot undermines the real meaning of the term. “We have bought already – Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud,” he told The Daily Star. “But when you listen to people, you always have to buy more. “Spending in itself is not a quality. Buying better players than we have – that is a quality. Ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Anfield to play Liverpool, Wenger asserted that new players need

Arsenal Bid For Cabaye Accepted

Well it is about time that Arsenal fans had something to cheer about today, as Sky Sports are reporting right now that the Gunners have put in a bid for Yohan Cabaye, and Newcastle have accepted it! So now Arsenal have a couple of hours to agree personal terms and check him over before the window shuts. Cabaye has been linked with Arsenal for the last few days after it was originally assumed that we were after his midfield Toon team-mate Chieck Tiote – but it seems that those rumours were wide of the mark. When it was originally reported that Arsenal were chasing Tiote, Wenger responded by saying: ‘I’m pleased with what I have, but yes I anticipate that we will do something. Defensive midfielder? It depends on the quality of the players available. Tiote is a good player, but he’s not on the way to Arsenal.’ Wenger obviously rates the £15m-rated French midfielder Cabaye above his team-mate Tiote, and it looks like we may have something to cheer about before the windo

Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin Will Remain In Emirate

Image
Little Russian and Arsenal midfielder  Andrey Arshavin  has confirmed that he will remain a Gunner this season despite his contract expiring in 12 months time. Asked by  Sport Express  as to whether he would be staying at the Emirates this season, Andrey replied with a ‘yes’. Arshavin was bought on deadline day in 2009 and started his career at the Emirates with a bang, but unfortunately his form dramatically decreased. He has often been criticised for being lazy, highlighted by his reluctance to drop back and help out to defend or create space for himself, which largely means he remains static on the wing. While it is true that Arshavin plays better through the middle, I still think he could have made more of an effort and even cut-in from the flank at times if he wanted to have some influence in the middle of midfield. He did have a good first few months in that position so we know he is able to play there. Due to his lack of playing time at the Emirates las

Arsenal to Make Last Gasp £16m Bid to Sign Newcastle United Midfielder Cheick Tiote

Emirates Stadium consider deadline-day move for St James’ Park enforcer. Arsenal are reportedly readying a bid in the region of £16m for Newcastle United enforcer Cheick Tiote as Arsene Wenger plots a late move on transfer deadline day. The Gunners boss believes the St James’ Park enforcer as the ideal man to replace Alex Song, who moved to Barcelona earlier this month. Indeed the Emirates Stadium manager is ready to use the funds from the sale of the Cameroonian to make an offer for the Magpies star. Chieck Tiote has enjoyed two successful campaigns at St James’ Park since his £3.5m arrival from FC Twente but Alan Pardew has himself admitted that he is concerned that his side’s successes could lead to unwanted attention from prospective suitors. Thus far the Newcastle United boss has managed to hold on to the club’s top performers who helped the North-East side secure a surprise top five finish last season but he may well fear that the club’s owner, Mike Ashle

Late M’Vila Move Ruled Out

As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news. Today, Rennes claim Yann M’Vila won’t be leaving this summer. Rennes have confirmed that Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham target Yann M’Vila won’t be making a late switch to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports . The powerful midfield enforcer has attracted interest from clubs throughout Europe this summer after declaring his intention to leave Ligue 1 this summer. Arsenal were the early front-runners for his signature but were joined by rivals Tottenham as well as champions Manchester City. However, the Gunners and City have failed to follow up their initial interest and Rennes claim Tottenham called off negotiations on Thursday evening. The French outfit have now ruled out M’Vila making a late move to the Premier League, with President Frederic de Saint Sernin claiming only clubs in Russia or Ukraine have a chance o

Chelsea Offer Michael Essien to Arsenal But Wenger Declines Blues Proposal

Image
Stamford Bridge side attempt to send midfielder to the Emirates Stadium. So there you have it. This may or may not be an accurate representation of the speculation surrounding Michael Essien being linked with a move from Chelsea to Arsenal, but either way as yet the Ghanaian has yet to make a move away from the Stamford Bridge club. Tellingly the 29 year old defensive midfielder was not part of the Blues squad that traveled to Monaco to take on Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. Many would have thought that Arsene Wenger would be keen on bringing in a defensive midfielder having seen Alex Song move to Barcelona but with hours to go until the transfer window slams shut the North London club has not brought in such a player thus far. In his pomp Essien was perhaps one of the best tough tacklers midfielders in the Premier League but injuries and average form have left the former Monaco man looking to leave Chelsea in order to re-ignite a career that is in dang

DONE DEAL: Tottenham Complete £6m Deal to Sign Fulham Attacker Clint Dempsey

Image
White Hart Lane side clinch Craven Cottage forward signing. Tottenham are having a very productive transfer deadline day. Having secured a deal to sign French international keeper Hugo Lloris the North London side have now landed Fulham forward Clint Dempsey. The 29 year old has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage for a couple of months now and his attempts to engineer a move away from Fulham have led to him being frozen out by Martin Jol, fined and out of the West London club’s first team picture for the opening Premier League matches of the season. Dempsey had a stand out season last term, netting 23 goals in all competitions. Andre Villas-Boas may well have felt it imperative to bring in another goal-scoring option and the fact that Dempsey can play in a variety of attacking roles will also have played a part in the Portuguese boss’s pursuit of the Texan. Clint Dempsey can play as an orthodox striker as well as in an advanced attacking midfield r

Arsenal Make £7m Bid For Demba Ba

Hey for a second there, I thought AW was content with Giroud and Chamakh as our two front line attackers. Then reports flew in like a pigeon to some bread that Newcastle are lining up a move for a replacement striker. Why? Well Arsenal are reportedly offering £7m for the prolific striker Demba Ba. Ba has been somewhat of a spectacle since signing on a free transfer from West Ham last summer. To be modest, he’s scored some crackers last season and has a £7m release clause in his contract. So D day nonsense or actual possibility? Guess we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out. The player could quit St James’ Park with Arsenal offering him a step up the pecking order. At £7m it’s not hard to predict that many other sides will be sniffing around the powerfully built French born forward but the promise of Champions League football, a tournament Demba Ba is yet to feature in, could see the AW leading the race for his services. What’s more, we need a back for Girou
