Leon Goretzka Might Not Be Joining Arsenal In January Transfer Window

Schalke 04 are reportedly preparing a new club-record contract offer for Leon Goretzka to ward off interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
The 22-year-old’s displays for club and country have drawn the interests of some Europe’s biggest sides in recent weeks, and he could be available for a cut-price transfer in January as his current deal ends at the end of the campaign.
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is believed to see Goretzka as a potential replacement for Emre Can, who himself is out of deal next summer, and is reportedly lining up a bid for the Germany international.
But, the Reds are likely to face strong competition for his services, with Arsenal naming Goretzka as cover for Mesut Ozil and United also between the interested sides.
Bild suggests that Schalke are still desperate to keep their prized asset, though, and are set to offer him a massive new contract which would make him the highest-paid footballer in the club’s history.
Goretzka has netted six goals in 12 games for Germany and was part of their Confederations Cup-winning squad during the summer, while so far this campaign he has four goals in 10 Bundesliga games for Schalke.
