Done Deal: Fiorentina complete signing of Arsenal 25-year-old midfielder

Lucas Torreira has signed for Serie A outfits Fiorentina from Arsenal on a season-long loan.

The South American midfielder has arrived for his medical on Tuesday and has agreed on an initial loan move, with the Serie A giants holding an option to buy Torreira for £12.8m on a permanent basis for the next campaign.

The Uruguay international, who is currently not in Mikel Arteta’s plans, decided on to make a return to Serie A where he has previously played for Sampdoria in 2018. Eintracht Frankfurt also made an offer for the 25-year-old midfielder in the transfer window.

Torreira will wear the No 18 shirt for La Viola, who finished 13th in the Serie A last season and began their 2021/22 campaign with a 3-1 loss to AS Roma.

He has played 89 games for the North London giants and scored four goals. The midfielder’s deal at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer of 2023

The loan move to Florence follows his successful 2020/21 season where Torreira helped Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid to the La Liga trophy, playing 26 games during his time in the Spanish capital
