Madrid Has A Total Of 35 Laliga Trophy As They Won Espanyol 4-0

Real Madrid secured their 35th La Liga title after beating Espanyol 4-0 on Saturday. Rodrygo scored twice, with Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema adding the gloss to ensure they wrapped things up with four games to spare.

Needing only a draw to guarantee glory once more, it took 33 minutes for Rodrygo to open the scoring. The Brazilian added a second 10 minutes later with a fine finish in a dominant display at the Bernabéu.

Asensio’s strike allowed Carlo Ancelotti to rest players as they prepare for their Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City on Wednesday, before Benzema finished things off to leave Madrid uncatchable at the top.

The league title is Madrid's second trophy of the 2021-22 season after winning the Spanish Supercopa in January. They will look to keep hopes of more silverware alive on Wednesday in their Champions League semifinal second leg with Manchester City, trailing 4-3.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti -- who returned to the club last summer for his second spell in charge -- becomes the first coach to win the title in Europe's "top five" leagues: Italy's Serie A, England's Premier League, France's Ligue 1, Germany's Bundesliga and now Spain's LaLiga.

Madrid has now won LaLiga a total of 35 times, the most of any Spanish club, ahead of Barcelona with 26. Four of those titles have come since 2010, in 2012, 2017, 2020, and now 2022, a period in which the club has also won four Champions League titles.

Madrid, who have dropped points just nine times this season compared to 17 for Sevilla, 15 for Barca, and 15 for Atletico, deserve great credit for their consistency and ruthlessness.

Espanyol had 20 shots to Madrid’s 11, but the hosts were far more clinical in front of the goal. Rodrygo exemplified their cutting edge, scoring from both his shots while also playing two key passes.
