Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had hoped to send young striker Yaya Sanogo out on loan this season before being forced to keep him due to being unable to land his main striker targets in the transfer window, CaughtOffside has learned. The 20-year-old Frenchman was snapped up on a free transfer from Auxerre this summer, but, despite his talent and potential, is inexperienced at the top level, having only made 24 senior appearances for his old club, many of those in the second tier in France. He is also highly capped at youth level for his national side, but is yet to break into the senior fold, and there have been concerns by Wenger that he might struggle to adapt to the intensity and level of the Premier League so quickly. Arsenal are set to be rivalled by Manchester United for the signature of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. The big man is reportedly on boss Arsene Wenger’s shopping list and it seemed we had no rivals for his signature, despite seeing a bid ejected on transfer deadline day. But now David Moyes could be set to make his own offer to take him to Old Trafford, after he watched Benteke in action for his country against Scotland on Friday night according to the Daily Star. Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Romanian striker Ciprian Marica, who is available on a free transfer, according to the forward’s agent. Marica has been linked with a host of clubs in recent days, including Shakhtar Donetsk and Serie A duo Inter Milan and Lazio. His agent has confirmed that the Romanian striker who is available for nothing after leaving Schalke at the end of his contract in the summer is closing in on a move to the Premier League.
