Aston Villa complete signing of £20,000-a-week Arsenal goalkeeper

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will turn his attention back to off the field issues after guiding the Gunners to a magnificent win over Fulham in their opening Premier League fixture. Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes both made a huge impact on debut, and Arteta will be hoping he can bring in more quality additions before the end of the transfer window. The main talking point at the Emirates Stadium right now is around the goalkeeper situation.

Emiliano Martinez is understood to be nearing a move away from the club, while David Raya from Brentford is being lined up as his replacement. Emiliano Martinez has completed a medical with Aston Villa ahead of a £20m move away from Arsenal. The Argentine goalkeeper was left out of the squad that beat Fulham on Saturday, with Bernd Leno returning to the starting XI from a long-term injury. Martinez made it clear to the club that he would be packing his bags if he wasn’t made number one, having played an important role in Arsenal’s FA Cup and Community Shield successes. Arsenal are set to offer £10m for Brentford's David Raya with Emiliano Martinez poised to join Aston Villa. Bernd Leno has returned from injury to become Mikel Arteta's no. 1 choice, leaving Martinez to seek a way out.

Raya was one of several standouts for a Brentford side that came to within 90 minutes of promotion. Arsenal will spend up to £10m on the goalkeeper who is keen on challenging himself in the Premier League, reports The Sun. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal’s FA Cup and Community Shield hero Emiliano Martinez has ‘completed’ a move to join Aston Villa. The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta was believed to be keen on keeping both of his first-team goalkeepers, in order to bring competition to every area of the side, but despite being picked over Bernd Leno for the Shield win over Liverpool two weeks ago, Martinez has decided to leave the club.

Fabrizio Romano has become the inside track on all comings and goings recently, and he has broken the story to his followers, and despite no official confirmation, there is little doubt over his credibility. Aston Villa have completed the signing of Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal – contract signed until June 2024. Talks on with Werder for Milot Rashica. And Arsenal keep working to sell players [Torreira too] and then will try again for a top midfielder [Aouar or Thomas] 🛑 #AFC #AVFC — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 13, 2020 The Argentine shotstopper made it clear that he wanted guarantees over his playing time as he targets earning a call-up to his international side this term, something which doesn’t appear to have happened. Martinez will now join the Midland club and will have to fend off Tom Heaton for the number one jersey, although he is injured at present.

Romano also adds that Aston Villa are in talks over a deal to Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen, whilst Arsenal are working hard to raise funds in their bid to sign one of Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey.
