Official Done Deal: Arsenal Confirmed the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes.


The 22-year-old defender joins the club from Lille for around £27m in what is a major coup for Mikel Arteta's side. Fans have been waiting patiently for the deal to be announced and wishes were finally granted across Arsenal's official social media channels today. The Brazilian joined fellow countrymen Willian and David Luiz in a video group chat, meaning Arsenal fans can now look forward to the 22-year-old's debut. Gabriel is revered as one of the best young defenders in the world after a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 last season.
Both Manchester United and Napoli were heavily linked with a move for the young centre-back, but Gabriel simply couldn't turn down the prospect of playing regularly for Arsenal under Arteta. The Brazilian is set to be a key member of the Gunners' first-team in 2020/21 alongside fellow new defensive arrival, William Saliba. Arsenal legend Martin Keown was full of praise for Gabriel when discussing the youngster's progress at Lille on BT Sport. "I saw him play against Chelsea for Lille last season, I went out to watch him," he said. Technical director Edu said: “We are delighted to have signed Gabriel.

He is a player we have been studying for a while and he was in demand from many clubs, so we are proud to have agreed and completed this transfer with Lille and the player. Gabriel is a player of high quality and Mikel and his coaches are looking forward to integrating him into the club.” Mikel Arteta said: “We welcome Gabriel to Arsenal.

He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team. He has proved with Lille that he is a defender with many outstanding attributes and we are looking forward to watching him grow as an Arsenal player.” Gabriel will now take on the number six shirt going into the new season, with his shirt now found in the official Arsenal shop.
