Youri Tielemans to Arsenal: A major twist before the game, the fee revealed, and Edu's opinion

During the summer transfer window, Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

The north London club has been one of the busiest in the Premier League this transfer window, bringing in five first-team players, including former Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira, young Brazilian winger Marquinhos, and American goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Since then, the Gunners have been weeding away marginal players, opening the door for someone like Tielemans to enter before the transfer market closes next month. With that stated, football.london has compiled a list of all the latest rumours concerning a possible move for the Belgian international.

Tielemans' arrival to the Emirates Stadium this summer is 'unlikely,' according to The Athletic. They suggest that the Belgian is now likely to stay at the King Power this summer.

Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, is rumoured to seek five or six new arrivals, but the club must first sell.

Arsenal are willing to wait until Youri Tielemans' current deal ends before signing the Belgian on a free transfer, according to football.london.

The Gunners have had an arrangement with the player for some time and are sure that they will be able to obtain him for less than Leicester's current asking price.

Arsenal rejected the Foxes' £32 million asking price for the Belgian midfielder, believing it was too costly for a player with only one year left on his contract. Although external variables might quickly change the situation, Edu is not in a hurry to sign the player.

According to the Evening Standard, Leicester are now prepared to let Tielemans depart for a lesser asking price of £25 million.

The midfielder is in the final year of his contract and has informed Leicester that he has no plans to sign an extension.

Arsenal have yet to make an official bid for the Belgium international, and the Gunners will get a first-hand look at what they may be missing out on when Leicester visit north London for the big game on Saturday, August 13.

Leicester are anticipating a bid for Tielemans in the near future, according to trade guru Ben Jacobs. "Leicester also expect an offer for Youri Tielemans shortly," Jacobs said on Twitter. Despite the dearth of offers thus far, an Arsenal transfer is still very much a possibility. Leicester currently requires £30 million. Tielemans wants the uncertainty around his future to be settled.

"Manchester United (MUFC) is also still interested."

Arsenal have yet to make a formal proposal for Tielemans, while Leicester City have set a deadline for any deal involving the former Monaco maestro, according to the Evening Standard. Over the weekend, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers stated, "There is that potential [Tielemans may move], but there hasn't been anything for him, we haven't had any approaches to the club on that."

"Of course, that type of what-if scenario is at the back of his mind, but he also doesn't want it to drag on."

Despite Arsenal's evident interest in Tielemans, a deal for the Leicester City midfielder has yet to be completed. Because, according to David Ornstein, the Gunners may have to sell a midfielder in order to get one in.

"The decision makers at the club are all-in on him," he said of the transfer, "but it's more complicated than that because when you speak to people around this situation they make it clear that there may need to be a departure first for Tielemans to come in, be that Granit Xhaka or someone else in that area of the field to free up the space and the finance."

Brendan Rodgers, manager of Leicester City, has provided an update on the 25-year-future, old's revealing that no movement has been made on a new deal. When asked about Tielemans' contract discussions, Rodgers stated, "There's no news at all."

"He's a fantastic man to work with. He's recently returned to the club (for pre-season), and he looks the same. He's really dedicated to his training. He enjoys his job and enjoys his time at the club. But, with a year left on his contract, he may feel compelled to consider everything for himself and his family. But I know he's devoted here while he's here.

"I'll have a nice talk with Youri next week to find out what he's thinking privately." But that won't change; whether he leaves or stays for another five years, he'll remain dedicated."

When asked if the Foxes would tolerate the Northern Irishman continuing for the last 12 months of his contract before departing on a free transfer next summer, he said, "I'm not sure." If it happens, it implies there was either no acceptable offer or no offer at all. That is the truth.

"From Youri's point of view, he'll keep training and working. He's really focused on putting himself in shape, and he's a fantastic guy to have on the team as he always is. Until that changes, I will do all in my power to continue growing him and the team. There is a chance, but we must wait and see."

Newcastle United have increased their pursuit of Tielemans. As the Magpies look for midfield reinforcements, sports director Dan Ashworth has personally enquired about the Arsenal target.

Personal terms were agreed upon.

Arsenal have been connected with a move for Tielemans since last summer, so it is not surprising that speculation about a trade has increased this year. Personal arrangements have already been agreed upon between the Gunners and the midfielder, according to Jacobs.

"Tielemans wants to join Arsenal, and Edu is still in contact with his agency," he tweeted. "Arsenal agreed to terms and worked on the transaction for a year before making an official proposal."

In an interview with GiveMeSport this week, Jacobs also revealed more about the competition for Tielemans. Manchester United are vying for the Belgian's signature, but Jacobs believes the Gunners are his top option.

"He's totally sold on a move to Arsenal," CBS correspondent Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport. "If Manchester United make a bid for Tielemans, they will only get him if Arsenal decide that's great, go ahead and take the player." "It's not a true head-to-head.

"I believe Manchester United's possible interest in Tielemans, which has yet to be announced, may just catalyse Arsenal to make another bid or may cause Arsenal to say, 'I'm sorry, but we're not interested.'" If you wish, you may join Manchester United."
