It was fully expected that the new French richboys Paris St Germain had managed to tie up a deal for the Ajax defender Gregory Van Der Wiel, but it is now being reported by the French radio station RMC that both Arsenal and Newcastle are making a last-ditch attempt to try and bring Van Der Wiel to the Premier League. The respected BBC football expert David Ormstein seems to have been talking with someone at Arsenal and he has been assured that Arsene Wenger has no intention of adding to the squad today. With the departures of Nicklas Bendtner and Chu-Young Park this is rapidly turning into a deadwood day for Arsenal fans rather than deadline day, and Ormstein seems sure that the ONLY possible arrival could be Michael Essien on loan and that is only because Chelsea are looking to offload.
