Arsenal In Last Minute Move For Van Der Wiel
It was fully expected that the new French richboys Paris St Germain
had managed to tie up a deal for the Ajax defender Gregory Van Der Wiel,
but it is now being reported by the French radio station RMC that both
Arsenal and Newcastle are making a last-ditch attempt to try and bring
Van Der Wiel to the Premier League.
The Ajax defender is a snip at just £4.5 million and is highly experienced and respected in Holland. If Van Der Wiel moves to Paris there is also the fact that he will be in direct competition with the PSG captain Christophe Jallet which may restrict his opportunities for first team football, whereas at Arsenal he will only have Carl Jenkinson to compete with until the increasingly fragile Bacary Sagna returns from his second broken leg.
Wenger has made it clear that Arsenal will only buy “top, top players” and with the Gunners obviously weak in the full-back positions, Van Der Wiel could easily qualify for that title, and at an excellent price.
