Gunners given hope in chase for Spanish striker.
Manchester City are not interested in a deal for Barcelona striker David Villa, according to Sky Sports.
Newcastle vs Arsenal tickets are still available for the clash at St James’ Park on 19 May!
The news will give hope to Arsenal, who have been repeatedly linked with the out-of-favour front-man this month.
Premier League Champions City are on the verge of selling striker Mario Balotelli to AC Milan and had reportedly identified 31-year-old Villa as an ideal replacement.
But Roberto Mancini said on Tuesday that he does not expect to sign a replacement for the Italy international, leaving Arsenal free to attempt to complete an unlikely deal for the former Valencia man.
Villa is reportedly desperate to leave the Nou Camp this month, having made just seven starts in La Liga all season.
The striker has still found the net on five occasions but wants to play regular first-team football.
Reports last week suggested that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was prepared to pay up to £13.8m for the Spain international, who has won the World Cup and European Championship with his country plus a number of domestic and European trophies with the Catalans.
But the Frenchman has said a deal is unlikely, with Barca unwilling to sell Villa this month
