Fan Fear For Santos vs Robben

Andre Santos 2
After Kieran Gibbs came off injured he faces a fight to be fit for the Champions League games with Bayern Munich. It left many fans wondering what will come of a duel between the struggling Andre Santos and Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
Arsenal played out an exciting 2-2 draw with Liverpool at The Emirates last night and after going two-goals down they would have been pleased with the way they responded to such a lacklustre start and in the end they were unfortunate not to earn all three points.
However the game again had a similar talking point and the worst factor of said talking point is that I am about to agree with Piers Morgan’s opinion on football. Give me strength when I say these things but frankly Andre Santos really might be the worst player to ever pull on an Arsenal shirt. That may be unfair as he must have something about him to have made 22 caps for Brazil. But as a left-back in the Premier League he is nowhere near the standard necessary to mount a top four challenge.
While the first goal was calamitous on all counts and attaching blame to Santos would be difficult considering he was sat on the bench at the time; I’m not that harsh. However the way he was shrugged off by Jordan Henderson for Liverpool’s second was a little short of embarrassing; especially when you consider the way Jack Wilshere was easing the former Sunderland man off the ball all game.
Then he very nearly gifted Liverpool their avenue back into the game with a wayward pass late on that led to an opportunity for all three points to go back to Merseyside.
It was again simply not good enough from the 29-year-old and you could forgive Arsenal fans for assuming he was one of the factors of conversation in Arsene Wenger’s post-match interview when he mentioned removing what it was that was ‘punishing’ them.
With Kieran Gibbs increasingly frustrating injury problems now keeping him out for up to three weeks minimum Arsenal will have to grin and bear Santos’s inept defensive abilities for a little while longer.
It also seems too late for Wenger to dip into the transfer market for a replacement and indeed send Santos packing.
