Arsenal swoop for Villa over as striker spotted shopping in Barcelona on deadline day

Arsenal appear almost certain to miss out on signing David Villa after the Spain forward was seen shopping in Barcelona this afternoon.
Arsene Wenger had made the 31-year-old striker his top priority.
But the Arsenal boss now appears destined to miss out on Villa with the transfer window closing at 11pm tonight.

Wenger claimed that any bid for Villa was unlikely after last night's 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
'I believe the squad is top, top level,' the Frenchman said after the match. 'We have to learn to trust these players and keep faith with them.'
Wenger has yet to make any signings during the transfer window but is said to be interested in Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.
Wenger had earmarked a new goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder and a striker as his three priority areas to strengthen.

Adrian Lopez, Edin Dzeko and Villa were all strike targets, while goalkeepers Pepe Reina, Michel Vorm and Simon Mignolet have interested Wenger.
Momo Diame had been touted as a potential candidate to fill the defensive midfield slot, but their is confusion over the West Ham star's release clause after Arsenal were informed it was £7million, rather than the rumoured £3.5m.
