West Ham have accepted a bid for their midfield star Mohamed Diame according to Sky Sports.

The Senegalese player has been strongly linked with Arsenal throughout the transfer window but it is not clear at this stage who the bidding club are.

It is understood that West Ham were keen to hang on to the player but the bidding club have matched a £3.5 million release fee in the player’s contract meaning the Hammers were powerless to refuse.

The player had reportedly threatened to go to FIFA over his belief that West Ham were not respecting the release fee clause in his contract.

But West Ham have insisted they have received no bids for the player and reportedly offered Diame a new contract today in the hope of staving off interest.

Arsenal remain favourites for the player’s signature should the enforcer leave Upton Park. But rumours are suggesting that Tottenham may be the club who have made the bid.

Spurs have just lost Sandro to injury for the rest of the season following surgery on the Brazilian’s knee and have only Scott Parker left to turn to in the defensive midfield position.
