Arsenal In Talks With Cheikhou Kouyate – Confirms Player’s Agent

Arsenal could be closing in on the signing of Senegalese defender Cheikhou Kouyate. His agent claims he has held talks with Arsenal over a potential move and states that the Gunners are keen on signing the centre-back.
Arsenal were keen on getting him in the summer but doubts over him receiving work permit dissuaded Wenger from pressing on with the deal but now that he has received Belgian passport which makes him eligible to play anywhere across Europe, Arsenal might just be set to rekindle their interest and if words from the agent are anything to go by, they have already done so.
Saffet Balkan who represents the player was quoted in the media saying there has been talks with both Arsenal and Liverpool about a move to the Premier League, but we hold the most serious interest and he expects his client to move to England ‘soon’.
He said: “I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.
“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.” [source: Daily Star]
The 24-year-old is a huge central defender, standing at 6 foot 4 inches, so he’d certainly give us a presence at the back if he does end up joining. Interesting development and I am excited at the prospects of him joining because he would give us greater aerial presence at the back and also help us with versatility as Koscielny could move to right back to deputize in the event of injury to Sagna or his exit in the summer but the chances of him doing so in January is slim as it would mean further doubts over the future of Vermaelen. Wenger won’t want to upset the balance at the back and to this end, any move might have to wait till the summer.
