Chelsea Offer Michael Essien to Arsenal But Wenger Declines Blues Proposal

So there you have it. This may or may not be an accurate representation of the speculation surrounding Michael Essien being linked with a move from Chelsea to Arsenal, but either way as yet the Ghanaian has yet to make a move away from the Stamford Bridge club.

Tellingly the 29 year old defensive midfielder was not part of the Blues squad that traveled to Monaco to take on Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Many would have thought that Arsene Wenger would be keen on bringing in a defensive midfielder having seen Alex Song move to Barcelona but with hours to go until the transfer window slams shut the North London club has not brought in such a player thus far.

In his pomp Essien was perhaps one of the best tough tacklers midfielders in the Premier League but injuries and average form have left the former Monaco man looking to leave Chelsea in order to re-ignite a career that is in danger of stagnating at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey throughout 2020, and finally landed their man on Deadline Day. Willian has a new shirt number which is 12 wore by the famous Olivier Giroud at Arsenal, after signing on a free transfer from Chelsea on Friday following the conclusion of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal confirmed Willian will take 12 for his shirt number next season, after completing his move to the club. Stephan Lichtsteiner was the most recent player to wear the number, with Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, Carlos Vela and Lauren as the other four in the last 20 years. Hopefully, Willian will perform significantly more impressively for Arsenal than Lichtsteiner did.
