In 9 games for the North London side, the 22 year old Townsend has directly contributed in 6 goals. Hence earned his deserved place in Roy Hodgson’s England starting XI for the first time.
Townsend grabbed the opportunity with both hands with a man of the match display against Montenegro last night.
Tottenham winger tormented the opponent’s defense all game and helped in the opening goal. Adding to that, the youngster scored a wonderful 25 yard strike with his weak foot to re-gain England’s 2 goal advantage.
Walcott was in decent form as well before his injury. This season, the gunner featured in 8 games in all competitions, scored 2 goals and provided 4 assists as well.
Not to forget, 24 year old Theo Walcott was not the part of England’s squad that flew to the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
Surely he would not like to miss on another one. If Theo is fit, he is likely to travel with the squad, however Roy Hodgson may have a massive selection dilemma for the right wing position.
