Arsenal goalscorer Thomas Eisfeld ‘will work even harder now

Thomas Eisfeld bagged a goal against West Brom yesterday ... now he has his eyes set on a permanent place in the first-team.

Arsenal are through to the next round of the Capital One Cup after overcoming the threat of West Brom at The Hawthorns last night. Nicklas Bendtner was playing in his comeback game for the club and despite running into a post he also bagged the assist for Thomas Eisfeld’s opener in the second half - after a poor first-half display from both outfits.

And because it was the Dane who bagged the assist, on his long awaited return to first-team action withArsenal, it was almost forgotten that this was Eisfeld’s first senior goal for the club on what was his full debut.

A year ago, in that ridiculous 7-5 win against Reading the young German entered the fray, and for those who didn’t know his talent beforehand soon discovered what the fuss was about.

Compared to former Gunner Freddie Ljungberg and as ‘better than’ Mario Gotze injury problems saw Borussia Dortmund give up on the player as a teen - which is when Arsenal happily snapped him up.

But since then Eisfeld has not made any particular inroads toward a first-team spot being made his own - instead continuing to play for the under-21’s and playing a role in their NextGen Series success in 2012-13.

But the way he took his goal against The Baggies was indicative of his style. Cool, tempered and composed - and another German product excelling at The Emirates.
