Özil: I would’ve joined Arsenal for free

The deal made the attacking midfielder the most expensive German in history, eclipsing Mario Götze’s move to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer, and becomes the Gunners top earner on a reported £140k a week deal for the next five years.

Özil’s move caused plenty of controversy with many of his team mates mystified over the transfer, withRonaldo even revealing his anger over losing his main assister. But the Germany international lost respect at Madrid and again spoke of Wenger’s influence that convinced him to become Arsenal’s centre piece and main creative driving force in their exciting midfield lineup

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey throughout 2020, and finally landed their man on Deadline Day. Willian has a new shirt number which is 12 wore by the famous Olivier Giroud at Arsenal, after signing on a free transfer from Chelsea on Friday following the conclusion of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal confirmed Willian will take 12 for his shirt number next season, after completing his move to the club. Stephan Lichtsteiner was the most recent player to wear the number, with Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, Carlos Vela and Lauren as the other four in the last 20 years. Hopefully, Willian will perform significantly more impressively for Arsenal than Lichtsteiner did. The Gunners signed the right-back on an initial one-year deal with the option to extend for a further two, but they ended up giving up on him before the first year was even up.
