Özil: I would’ve joined Arsenal for free

The deal made the attacking midfielder the most expensive German in history, eclipsing Mario Götze’s move to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer, and becomes the Gunners top earner on a reported £140k a week deal for the next five years.

Özil’s move caused plenty of controversy with many of his team mates mystified over the transfer, withRonaldo even revealing his anger over losing his main assister. But the Germany international lost respect at Madrid and again spoke of Wenger’s influence that convinced him to become Arsenal’s centre piece and main creative driving force in their exciting midfield lineup

Arsenal anchorman Matteo Guendouzi has made a switch to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old Frenchman hasn’t played for Mikel Arteta’s side since a 2-1 loss to Brighton in June, during which he was involved in a fracas with Neal Maupay. Arsenal are reportedly running the rule over young Dutch international Jetro Willems as Arsene Wenger looks to ably add strength in depth to the left side of the Gunners defence. The teenage PSV Eindhoven starlet was part of Bert Van Marwijk’s Euro 2012 squad and is a player who has shown a great deal of potential since his move to the Philips Stadion in the summer of 2011. Willems has been a regular in Dick Advocaat’s PSV starting line-up this term, helping his side to an excellent start to the Eredivisie campaign where they sit just a point off leaders FC Twente.
