Abou Diaby Can Be Strong This Season

Arsenal Debate: Could this be Abou Diaby’s season? YES! Posted on August 18, 2012 by admin
New season by SV Yes, we have lost RVP. Yes, we are (most likely) going to lose Song. But the general mood among the Arsenal fans is still much better than I have seen in many years. I think that most fans recognize that we have handled the transfer window terrifically considering the circumstances (Song playing up, RVP wanting to leave and only one club putting in a respectable offer). In addition, it looks like everyone is willing to look forward instead of looking back, and support the players we have instead of mourning the players we have lost. Because, trust me on this, the players we have are quality. At the risk of sounding like Arsene, I would, hand on heart, say that we have the quality in our team to challenge for the title. Though we do need some additions in light of the recent departures (which Wenger has suggested we will get), I am confident in the quality throughout the spine of the team. Podolski, Cazorla, Arteta, Bosscielny, Walcott, Verminator… the list could go on. Also, while I agree that we need a specialised defensive midfielder, I would strongly warn against the underestimation of Abou Diaby. He’s not quite a holding player (as he loves to attack more than Song did), but he is a quality midfielder who, if he somehow doesn’t make the starting XI, will bring immense strength in depth to our squad. If he can stay injury free (which is a big if, I admit), he could well be the difference between success and failure. Yes, I said it. That’s how highly I rate him. But don’t take my word for it; listen to people who have played with him: Both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gnabry both commented on how good a player Diaby is. Gnabry even said that, of all the players in the first team, Diaby was the one who impressed him most. Not Song, not You-know-who, not even Arteta, but Diaby. Also, consider the fact that, according to several leading French journalists, Diaby – when fit – is the first midfield name on that French teamsheet. That’s ahead of players like Cabaye, M’Vila and Ca$hri. This is no mean feat. But I digress. Today is about more than one player. Today, the Arsenal kick starts its campaign. Win or lose, I’ll personally only be happy if every player – as Tony Adams would say – is playing for the name on the front of the shirt, and not the name on the back. This is our year, I can feel it. Come On You Gunners Read more at http://justarsenal.com/arsenal-debate-could-this-be-abou-diabys-season-yes/15442#PKfcqRPcSxthB0sk.99
