Azpilicueta has just recently signed for Chelsea Officially! The Right
Full back turns 23 next week and has already completed a switch from
France to London at a fee of £7m. Chelsea are still the highest spenders
in the league this season as this transfer takes them over the £70m
mark, and it shows the clubs motive, signing hot prospects that could be
world class in a matter of years.
With Sam Hutchinson on loan at Nottingham Forest, Chelsea have deemed Azpilicueta as a decent back up for Brandislav Ivanovic who has been very much in form of recent.
Azpilicueta came up through the youth ranks of Osasuna in his native Pamplona, where he played for three years in the first team before making the £5.5m move to Marseille in France. He made 69 appearances for Marseille and has scored one goal. He has played for the Spanish under 16 side, to the under 17s, 20s, 21s and 23s, he has never been capped by the main national team but made one appearance for Spain in the Olympics although they crashed out in the group stages.
Chelsea are still looking to capture Wigan’s Moses and it seems both clubs are in talks for the deal, Chelsea look set to really mount a serious challenge in all competitions this season, as their backups look promising, and also looking to the future with the amount of youths they are signing.
And yes, the sign-in was confirmed on the club’s official twitter page. And he would join the team tomorrow in training.
