Chamakh Eyeing Malaga Loan

Marouane Chamakh could be close to agreeing a season-long deal with troubled La Liga side Malaga. It’s widely believed that as part of the deal to sign Santi Cazorla for £12.5 million from the Spanish club, Arsenal also agreed a link-up which will allow Malaga to take unwanted players on-loan from the North London team, meaning Chamakh could represent the first in a long-line of similar deals that could happen in the near future.

Arsenal have been trying all summer to offload the Moroccan as they attempt to slim the clubs wage bill, however the striker’s hefty salary has meant a buyer has been hard to find. Championship side Blackburn Rovers had hoped to loan the forward but once they realised Arsenal were unwilling to subsidise the majority of his wages, they pulled out of a deal. His former club Bordeaux also refused to bid for their former star man, despite the Gunners welcoming offers.

Due to the lack of interest, Arsenal realised they might have to hold onto the 28-year-old and he was included in the pre-season preparations, however since then the Malaga link has been arranged and presuming the Spanish club agree to pay a large percentage of the striker’s salary, a deal could be agreed later this week.

It’s expected Malaga will decide after the conclusion of their Champions League qualification tie tonight, the cash strapped club would need the additional revenue from the UEFA competition in order to pay Chamakh. The Spanish club are currently leading Panathinaikos 2-0 on aggregate.
