Arsenal V Sunderland: Preview

Arsenal V Sunderland: Preview August 18, 2012 by Simon Barclays Premier League Venue: Emirates Stadium Date: Saturday, 18 August
Kick off: 3pm Arsenal begin their campaign with a few injury doubts, Theo Walcott’s thigh injury will be assessed but is expected to start. Meanwhile Alex Oxlade Chamberlain will miss out due to an ankle injury, and Per Mertesacker is expected to step in for Laurent Koscielny who has a calf injury. Bacary Sagna is still suffering from the broken leg which he sustained last season so Carl Jenkinson will start at right back The notable absence from the starting XI is of course Alex Song who has been left out of the side due to his impending move to Barcelona. Abou Diaby is set to replace him in midfield, after a solid pre-season, Diaby will be looking to stay injury free this season and cement his place in the side. Santi Cazorla is expected to make his debut in a central attacking midfield spot and will be looking to thread through balls to the attackers. Olivier Giroud is likely to start, although he is suffering from fatigue, which could mean that Podolski will play the central role, with Gervinho coming in on the left. After a great pre-season Gervinho is looking sharp and hungry again, and I’m sure he will have a huge impact this season. Arsenal will be looking for a good start to the season, with a couple of high profile departures, it is important to show that no player is bigger than the team.
