Stadium of Light man wants move to London, could Emirates Stadium side oblige? MARTIN O’NEILL has confirmed Kieran Richardson wants to end his five-year stay at Sunderland. Richardson was one of Sunderland’s stand-out performers in Saturday’s opening day stalemate at Arsenal after the left-back subdued England international Theo Walcott. But the 27-year-old perhaps tellingly threw his shirt into the crowd after the final whistle and with less than 12 months remaining on his Black Cats contract, could be heading to pastures new before the transfer deadline. Sunderland are yet to receive an offer for Richardson, despite the former Manchester United man being linked throughout the summer to London trio West Ham, QPR and Arsenal. By all accounts Kieran Richardson wants to move back to London and as such it’s perhaps no surprise that the former Man United has been targeted by a trio of clubs from the capital and of the three it seems fair enough to suggest that a move to Arsenal would most tempt the 27 year old. Perhaps tellingly Richardson threw his shirt into the away end after Sunderland grabbed a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium, leading to suggestions that the England international has now played his last game for the Black Cats. Richardson could be a clever addition to the Arsenal squad given his adaptability and his ability on the ball. The Sunderland man can play at full back as well as across the midfield and has even been used as a second striker by the Stadium of Light side. Arsenal have had some severe injury concerns over the past 18 months and could well do with a ‘Jack of All Trades’ type of signing and Arsene Wenger has previously been linked with moves to sign the Sunderland man. He could be especially useful at full-back or in midfield with the likes of Bacary Sagna and Jack Wilshere both suffering long term lay-offs of late. Also a move to Richardson is unlikely to break the bank and given that Arsenal have already forked out around £36m to sign Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla, a move for a fourth addition may be well be a cost-effective one.
